Assassin’s Creed: Collectors Edition Packing Revealed

Xbox 360 version of 'Madden NFL 08' sticks it to PS3

On the surface, the releases on 360 and PlayStation 3 look identical. However, when you stack them head-to-head, it's clear which is better. Madden on 360 is fast and fluid, thanks to a sharp jump in frame rate that allows the game to move twice as fast.
PS3 owners, unfortunately, are greeted with a Madden that is sluggish in comparison. Action stutters far too often, particularly on injuries, penalties and turnovers. There's also a half-second delay between pressing the hike button and receiving the ball in your hands. Even close-ups between play look dull when lined up against the 360's sleeker cut scenes.

BioShock: I think I've been here before

Destructoid.com writes: "So, like many, I played the unbelievable BioShock demo last night, and was floored. I've never been much of an FPS fan; I've always said it would take a lot to get me really into the genre. But few could argue with me that BioShock definitely brings it to the table, with one of the most vividly realized and physically interactive worlds I've ever seen in a game."

Microsoft has said MMO developers are now allowed to implement hard drive requirements for their games

From the launch of the hardware, one criticism of the Xbox 360 has been the way the base Core unit has no hard drive, effectively splitting the market between those with ample storage space and those without. This means developers are unable to utilize the Xbox 360's hard drive in games, as they must cater to the lowest common denominator--the Core user. However, an MCV report from Microsoft's Gamefest says MMO developers will be allowed to require users to have a hard drive to play their titles.Game companies will have to display the requirement on the front of the box.Requiring Xbox 360 gamers to have a hard drive isn't totally unprecedented, just uncommon. The MMO Final Fantasy XI required 360 gamers to have the extra storage space.Microsoft said that it will not put any limitations on the amount of hard drive space required for a game, but Microsoft's Ian Lewis warned, "Feel free to require 30GB for your game – that's just going to make your potential audience a lot smaller.”Developers have previously spoken out about having to develop for hard drive-less Xbox 360s, namely Rockstar creative VP Dan Houser, who told the Official PlayStation Magazine UK earlier this year, "On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations? Yep."As the Gamefest report states, however, it appears that MMOs will be the only types of games that will be able to take advantage of this loosening of developer restrictions.

NYT: Halo 3 Makes Up for 360 Breakdowns

A New York Times article cites a few Xbox 360 owners who’re
especially forgiving of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 hardware issues; analyst accuses Microsoft of skimping on product testing.
Over a month ago, Microsoft announced that it had earmarked around $1 billion to repair faulty Xbox 360 consoles that suffered from the “Red Ring of Death."THE NEW YORK TIMES cited a few Xbox 360 loyalists who have encountered faulty hardware, but are still quite happy to get replacement consoles so they can play the Xbox 360’s strong upcoming library of games—namely, Halo 3.Accountant Josh Bridges of Spring, Tex., for example, summarized his plight with unreliable Xbox 360s. “My wife told me she didn’t want me to buy anymore Microsoft consoles. But I told her I’m a huge fan of the games that come out for this platform.”One 15-year-old gamer said, “There’s nothing in the house that breaks down as much.” But he still is an Xbox 360 fan.Analysts have said that while Microsoft’s decision to spend $1 billion on console repairs was a costly move, but in the long-term it was necessary in order to save face for Microsoft's videogame hardware.Microsoft said it would fix the three-red-light error free of charge, upping the warranty to three years and reimbursing those who had already paid for repairs. The revision of the warranty seemed to appease legions of message board posters who have been sweating the prospect of their white concave boxes becoming expensive paperweights. However, The New York Times interviewed analyst Richard Doherty with the Envisioneering Group, who said Microsoft didn’t thoroughly test the Xbox 360 as it raced to release the system before rival PlayStation 3.Microsoft had admitted that the problems with its console were rooted in its design, not a manufacturing issue. The firm said that it has since engineered around the problem. Microsoft refuses to say what exactly causes the breakdowns.Doherty said the $1 billion repair announcement is “dissipating a tremendous amount of momentum Microsoft built up prior to July,” adding, “This is going to get worse before it gets better.”

PS3 Poll Police: Is Lair still worth it or not?

The Poll Police have heard rumors that Lair isn't getting reviewed well in a magazine or two and have started a new investigation to see whether or not word-of-mouth from a handful of reviewers will bring substantial harm to a game's sales or not. The title, mixing dragons and death in what should be a heavy-metal-like winning combination, has been talked up over the past year and a half to be the first title to truly showcase the PS3's ability as well as new and original IPs to come. So, the Poll Police charge you with answering the following poll: despite reviews, would you still pick up Lair?

EGM EXPLAINS WHY LAIR'S REVIEW WAS AWFUL

GOODThey said motion control was cool. The ground combat was well done.No mention of frame rate indicating it was stable. They liked the epic scope of the game.

BADThey thought the dragon was a re- skinned x-wingThe dragon shooting fireballs was odd and wasn’t realistic enoughThe game had no map and someone asked if the graphics were good and he said “its High Def” and he didn’t like the colors used, everything was brown and Grey. They didn’t like the art style and said the game lacked innovation.
And thats about it, you can listen to the full podcast in the link provided above in the introduction.
