Us playstation magazine rates lair 5.0; warhawk 6.0
German gaming webstite Gamefront has posted an image of the latest Playstation Magazine issue, in which both Lair and Warhawk have been reviewed. Both games will be in stores at around August/September but Playstation Magazine does not seem very happy with both games, as the magazine rates Warhawk 6.5, and Lair even lower: 5.0. In the image of the magazine, you can see that Lair is described as: "A one-trick dragon" and destroys it with a 5.0 rating. Warhawk on the other hand is described as: "A third-person shooter that never quite gets off the ground", and rates the game with only a 6.5. The image can been see below.

EA GAMES RUN SLOWER ON PS3 THAN 360
EA Games Run Slower On PS3 Than Xbox 360
By David Richards Sunday 19/08/2007
In a written statement, Todd Sitrin, EA's vice president of marketing sports branding, said that its games are tweaked in different ways to fit the different consoles. "In designing a game, there are all sorts of tradeoffs that include frame rate, visuals, features, AI, etc. Football is an extremely challenging sport to replicate because of the number of people on the field, their interaction, and the scope of the environments. As you can see, every company making a football game this year made a decision that the best experience for the Xbox 360 included 60fps whereas the best experience for the PS3 was 30fps."
The statement did not indicate specifically why EA had made the tradeoff for slower speeds on the PlayStation, and did not address whether EA is having more trouble developing for PS3 than for the 360.
In general, the challenge of developing for the PS3, given the short time it has been available to the software makers, appears to be taking its toll elsewhere, industry analysts said. In at least three instances, video games that were once scheduled to be released on the same day for both the 360 and the PS3 will now have different release dates for the two versions, according to Evan Wilson, an industry analyst with Pacific Crest Securities.
For instance, he noted, Medal of Honor from Electronic Arts is slated to come out 28 Aug for the 360, but in November for the PS3.

Paramount has issued a press release providing more details on the studio's just announced move to support HD DVD exclusively.

The studio says it will launch its exclusive HD DVD program with the release of 'Blades of Glory' on August 28th (a release which was previously announced for both formats), and will follow with two of the biggest grossing movies of the year 'Transformers' and 'Shrek the Third.'

I'm stunned by this because bluray has been so well supported as is selling very indeed, in many cases by 2/1, a classic example is 300 which has more features on hd dvd but bluray still outsold by a large margin i wonder why they would drop bluray as it doesn't make good business sense even though paramount have said that hd dvd is the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount.

Sony vows to switch off Home abusers
The director of Sony's forthcoming Home platform has told an audience at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival that users who frequently abuse the service will have their consoles banned and disabled from online use.Peter Edward also stated that a serious abuser would "have to move house and buy a new PS3 before they could get online again".Although Sony said it does not intend to become a 'virtual police', the firm said it will take a dim view of anyone who consistently causes problems.Edward added: "Ultimately we know a user's details, we know machine details and we know where they live."If you really feel like you've been abused or that someone has just shown wholly inappropriate behaviour then you are able to complain about it. If you really, really misbehave you can have your console disconnected at a machine level."Clearly that's not something we would want to be doing very often but as a disincentive to mess round too much it's in our power."Sony is hoping that online users will police the Home environment and other users, adding: "It's a hard line to draw because we don't want to be walking around telling everyone off for saying 'bloody' so we've got to strike a balance there."We're going to be relying on users assessing what's appropriate to them – if they've been subject to behaviour they don't like they can complain about it rather than we walk around as virtual police."The firm is planning to offer adult areas in its Home environment, with possible branding from companies such as Durex, Marlboro and Bacardi. Edward said: "It's relatively simple to be confident that somebody is over 18. So it's no problem to have areas that are only open to those aged 18 years' and over. We are able to do that quite comprehensively, we have access to the log-in data that they use for the PlayStation Network."Undoubtedly there are going to be some things and some brands that we are not going to want to be involved in the environment at any stage."But a large proportion of our demographic is over 18 so we will make a point of catering to that demographic – we certainly don't want to dumb everything down to the lowest common denominator."
